We (Hashi Abib [father], Dr.
Mohamed H. Abib [MD], Dr. Abdulkarim H. Abib [Mechanical
Engineer], Prof. Ahmed H. Abib [Systems Sciences], Dr. Abdillahi
H. Abib [Industrial Engineer], Drs. Nura H. Abib [VD], and Dr.
Abdullahi J. Abib [MD]), the founders of the first American
University would like to welcome all students from Horn of
Africa regardless of race, gender, tribe, etc. to Eelo American
University.
For the past ten
years, as family we have implemented several projects in Horn of
Africa region. We have donated medical supplies, medical
equipment, medicine, educational materials (new textbooks,
educational supplies, furniture, etc) worth of US$25 Million to
Horn of Africa. We also built 12 new libraries with new
textbooks Grade 1-12 and college level in Horn of Africa. We
have been supporting many schools in Rural areas of Awdal region
with over 1650 students. We have built a new school at ILINTA,
Gebileh Districted in memory of our beloved mother Asha Kalib
Jimale.
We also decided
to create a non-profit organization, Eelo Foundation, in America
in order to expand the charity work we have been doing for the
past ten years. The Eelo Foundation named for the area where
our father grew up and to recognize where this shinning light
started, is registered in New Jersey. Every member of this
organization works and contributes to its success as a
volunteer. Our objective is to improve the education, health,
economics, agriculture, live stock wellness, rural development
and conflict resolution for poor communities in Horn of Africa.
We have a
history of supporting education in these regions and currently
we are supporting over 1,650 students in more than 28 schools.
These students will soon be finishing high school and if we do
not develop this new institution of higher learning, our
investment for these children will not be complete. If we do not
provide these children with opportunities to further their
education and develop needed skills they could become part of
problem rather than part of the
solution. This is why we are building the Eelo American
University in Borama, Awdal.
Our Objectives:
a) Through establishment of a
University, to help prepare the populace to take advantage of
the opportunities that the global economy offers. b) Reduce the
critical shortage of trained professionals and technical
workers. c) Improve Horn of Africa education indicators which are
among the lowest in the world. d) Develop a secular educational
system and curriculum more relevant to Horn of Africa needs. e)
Develop higher educational opportunity to improve: 1) weak
quality of learning due to insufficient teachers, and 2) archaic
pedagogic methods and 3) insufficient education and training
system due to inadequate government resources to increase
access, or improve quality. f) Establish the first university in
Horn of Africa to develop a capacity to implement the highest quality
of experience and expertise in policy and strategy development
for planning and management of the higher education system. g)
Strengthen access to knowledge and the use of knowledge by
building self-reliant individuals and institutions of higher
learning so that Horn of Africa citizens will be able to participate
fully in the development of their country, their region and the
world. h) Improve access to higher education by women and
minority tribes in Horn of Africa. i) Increase
access to and utilization of engineering, information technology and advanced
communications technology. j) Train institutional leaders and
managers in higher education. k) Secure the highest quality of
training for the students at the university, and assure that the
best trained professors and sufficient textbooks and other
learning materials are available to help do so. l) Train
institutional leaders and managers in higher education. m) Focus
special interest on training schoolteachers in mathematics and
science and improving school administration and performance
throughout the country. n) Support workforce development for
national and regional economic growth.
