On behalf of its founders, it is with great pleasure and honor I announce the opening of the first American University - Eelo American University - in Borama, Awdal on December 15, 2007. We will initially offer a pre-Undergraduate preparatory program, followed by a first year Undergraduate program. Eelo American University (EAU) has been established by the Eelo Foundation USA on the principle that the fundamental and lasting benefits that result from higher education, scientific and technical research, application of research results and community participation will enhance the lives of all the residents in this region. EAU will be a valued contributor to the historical and cultural vocation of ALL communities it serves.

EAU is designed to be the first “Environmentally Green” University and it is original in its organizational, physical and educational approach. EAU will provide graduates with high academic and research qualifications an opportunity to pursue knowledge and to expand cultural wealth. Graduates will be cognizant of social obligation, as well as, the need for human solidarity and tolerance.

EAU will contribute to ALL regional communities’ educational, cultural and economical objectives; while improving opportunities for the international community to contribute to the development, securing the peace and stability and reducing poverty in the region. At maturity, we will implement and offer programs in major curriculum of national and international interest.

EAU will prepare students at the bachelor's and master's degree levels. Each graduate with a master’s degree will be academically qualified to enter a doctor of philosophy, or equivalent program, in any accredited University in the international community. We will be registered in the United States of America and will therefore be modeled in the administrative, pedagogical and academic organization on the Land Grant University System of the United States of America.

English will be the language of instruction. However, special attention will be given to teaching a culturally supportive curriculum. Participation of women as students and/or as members of the faculties in the University will be emphasized. We will support and maintain fundamental rights to free speech and provide an environment in which students and faculty can achieve the highest level of intellectual integrity.

Eelo American University will initially conduct certificate, diploma and three years degree programs at the undergraduate level in the following fields of study: Computer Sciences, Engineering, Basic Sciences, Management Sciences, Veterinary & Allied Sciences, Applied Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Law & Human Rights and Continuous/Adult Education. We will entice scholars from around the world to conduct their research at our different centers – Peace & Conflict Center, HIV/AIDS Center, Malaria & TB Center, Environment & Natural Resources Center, and Culture & Heritage Center.

EAU will be funded through a variety of sources, such as student tuition fees, donations from the US & other supportive Governments, Private Companies & Corporations, Non-Profit Organizations and individuals. We will periodically post a “Financial Statement” on the University’s Website to show our supporters how the funds are being used to carry out our mission. Transparency and accountability are imperative cornerstones of this institution.

We are officially inviting parents and students, from all walks of life; regardless of clan, race, gender, creed, and political or religious affiliation to apply for enrollment in our Pre-Undergraduate Program.
